2019 Soweto Marathon winners pay outs: An explanation from The Soweto Marathon Trust

JOHANNESBURG, 16 January 2020

The large majority of the 2019 Soweto Marathon winners have been paid – and for those who have not yet received their prize-monies, the Soweto Marathon Trust (SMT) apologises. The delays have occurred due to several challenges faced by the organisers namely:

1. Failure of winners to correctly and timeously fill in the winners forms, inclusive of correct banking details;
2. The athlete’s agents banking details are provided as opposed to the athlete’s banking details.
3. A few of the athletes who have claimed payment do not appear on the winners list validated and signed off by CGA referees. The matter is being investigated by the organizers with CGA.

The Trust would like to appeal to journalists to please contact them directly by phone (Chairman or Secretary) for further investigation and thus result in more balanced writing and fair reporting.
