Seeding

This year the Soweto Marathon will make use of a unique seeding system based on application by athletes. The process will be as follows :

  • Types of Seeding

There will be 2 types of seeding :

Elite and Good for Age Seeding
General seeding based on expected race times

NOTE : Unseeded athletes will benefit from a mat to mat timing solution which means that there is no need to be far forward. Race time will be determined by when athletes cross the start mat. Prizes will be awarded on GUN times, however individual race times will be published on both a Gun to Mat and Mat to Mat basis.

  • Process and Application Form

To be considered for seeding, an application will need to be submitted with online entry.

All applications will be considered in line with guidelines set out below. All applicants will be advised via email of the outcome of the seeding application with their race number confirmation by Monday, 28th October 2019.

Seeding accreditation will be included in qualifying athlete's race packs with full details on race day logistics.

No Elite or Good For Age Seeding Accreditation will be issued without presentation of the athlete’s ChampionChip that will be used on race day.

  • Race Day

Elite athletes will be required to pass through an Elite holding area on race day to ensure final correctness of chip and data.
